Award winner at 2008 Bay Area Annual- Sanchez Art Center

Just came back from a great afternoon picking up my " Bikini Trio" from the Bay Area Annual show at the Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the Juror's talk yesterday. Maria Medua, director of SFMOMA's Artist's Gallery, was the juror and she unveiled the awards at her talk. But what a great surprize and honor to be given the check upon collecting my pieces this afternoon. We then went to Nick's in Rockaway Beach and had a great crab louie salad. Art, good friends, fresh crab meat and an award all in one afternoon. All in all a great afternoon.

Best Bakery & Guest House in Yunnan, China

I've been back 2 months from accompanying my mum & daughter into China. Yunnan Province to be precise. There are two things that keep coming into my mind and that's Karine's Bakery No. 88 and Erica's Mum's guesthouse. So if any one out there is heading to Dali, specifically old town, here are two fantastic places to go.
Firstly if you crave a piece of divine cheese cake or some home baked bread, cookies or cake, this is the place for you. If you want
excellent scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast or home made museli with real coffee in a french press go here. If you want solice and a warm place to just sit and drink a fresh fruit juice go here. It was our home away from home and Karine, a warm loving german baker is teaching the local village girls how to bake and run a small business, so go and meet them all and send my love.

Then if you have no where to sleep I suggest staying in this wonderful guest house. Its on the top road by the West Gate a five minute walk into the center and near the new large temple and bus center. The family and staff are so kind and friendly. Great shower and western toilet that worked wonderfully. Rooms were clean and inviting.

Pussy Hearts and Love Catchers Inspire

I was happy to receive these wonderful pictures today showing how my art has inspired others to create their own beautiful images. A cross between an Andy Goldsworthy "Nature Installation" and an Antonia Tuppy Lawson "Pussy Heart". Kirsty's Art assignment for this week produced the following:

Ceramic Sculpture at Pacheco Ranch Winery

So last weekend at Phillipe's Ranch I had a blast, for those of you who didn't make it be sure to go next year. It really is a fun event and so inspirational. What a great sculptor and generous host. As it so happens there is no rest for the wicked and so my one free weekend just became booked and this time to another Ranch. The Pacheco Ranch Winery is having its Fall open house and I am invited.
Oc
tober 25th - October 26, 2008 , 11-4 pm both days
Here's what the winery has to say:
"It’s time to come and celebrate another beautiful fall day with us at Pacheco Ranch as we open our doors to you for a day of wine tasting. We will be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, from 11 to 4pm, so please come join us in celebrating our wines. We will be featuring some local artist ( This is where I come in along with my friend and fellow artist Sue Lasseter !) at the event as well as pouring a selection of library wines. There will also be the opportunity to join our Wine Club, for which you will be able to purchase our wines at a discounted price. We will also be holding special events at the winery throughout the year for our members, so now is a great time to join! We’re looking forward to seeing you there!"
Me too. Looks like I'll be celebrating all month in the good old Libran tradition.

Turning 50 selling Ceramic Sculpture! Nuts!

COME CELEBRATE WITH ME AT
PHILLIPE
GLASHOFF'S V.I.P. SHOW

Well this weekend I turn 50. Weird to say the least cos I still feel like a kid apart from the aching neck and shoulders from years of lifting clay and sculpting. So what do I do? I go to another show! The kids are all dancing and that was my alternative, but then I was given the chance to be part of Phillipe & Chad Glashoff Vip Art Show in Fairfield, I decided that would be more fun than being inside a hotel all weekend. So if any of you are around and want to celebrate too, come out to Phillipe's Fairfield Ranch where there will be wacky art, music, food, wine and of course another 50 year old. Don't forget to bring that piece of rusty old metal, thats your admission in, and don't forget your wallet cos that will make you very popular at times like this.

A number of the artists create humorous and sometimes poignant works which shed light on the impact of food in our lives. Some of the artworks focus on the sheer beauty of food, while others examine the environmental impact of the international food industry.

August 4 - October 9, 2008
An Exhibition of Work created by recent recipients of Marin Arts Council’s Fund for Artists
Reception at the Foundation’s offices: Thursday, September 25 from 4:30-6:30 pm

I just finished hanging this show for the Marin Arts Council with other wonderful artists.
It is a great mix of work and a true lesson in patience and an alternative way to practice chi kung deep breathing!
It always amazes me how few artists read the instructions sent to them that relate to one particular show or another.

All that aside its worth a visit. The building is incredible and the art looks wonderful there.

"WILD THING" -OPENING AT - CLIFF LEDE VINEYARDS

The art opening for the Wild Thing exhibit curated by Ira Wolk at the Cliff Lede Vineyard Gallery was wonderful. Alex and I arrived at 5 pm. It was a glorious afternoon, balmy and very pleasant.
The bijoux winery gallery is located to the side of the vineyard's tasting room in a beautiful garden. We were offered glasses of champagne and Dean & Deluca appetizers (yummy).
Ira greeted us and took us around the show which is spectacular. It is beautifully installed, a  joy to see, and very classy.
The opening was  very well attended and the overflow of guests spilled out onto the Winery's patio to enjoy the evening. Ira, Barbra and Ruth were gracious hosts and the evening was delightful

We left after 7pm and headed over to a little french Bistro in Yountville for an
excellent dinner. If you're up that way please go and see the exhibit. Its up until September.

THE FORCE IS WITH ME

I just spent an exhausting 5 days hanging the Marin Fine Art Exhibit at the County Fair, we hung and placed over 750 pieces. Some of that time was spent judging the Junior Ceramics and also creating the Carbon Cube in the Green Exhibit. It was exhausting but wonderful. So many people are involved working so hard, it was an honor to be a part of it all. I had three pieces juried into the Fine Art Show. One large sculpture I entered into the Creatures and Models got a First Place. This exhibit is created by Industrial Light and Magic, its great and something I always participate in.
But by far the most exciting news was that our garden compost won not only First Prize but Best of Show!!! Perhaps Fine Art is over with and the money to be made is in garden waste! after all they're getting rid of art in schools and building worm bins. Pity they can't do both. I love doing my art and I love my composting too. And to top it all THE FORCE IS WITH ME.

A NEW PUSSY

Amber is a little miffed still. Here she is in a bowl straight from the kiln, Hot and alert. The first week was a hissing howling territory dance and Amber of course won the high ground hence the table. Amber was so vocal after Commet's death that we thought she might be lonely. Weren't we wrong!
Brooke arrival soon ended all that vocalization.
A month on they are doing well. Not exactly best buddies but getting used to each other. Brooke eats everything , Amber is still fussy and both now keep me company in the Clay Studio.
